Vasantotsav - Start from January 2017

Few more days to go for the Annual Treat for all music lovers. The Vasantotsav is an annual Indian music carnival to be held in Pune which starts from Jan 20, 2017.

Every year Vasantotsav was conducted in the memory of the late Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande. Vasantotsav will be conducted for 3 days and it will be free and open for all type of audience.

This year the utsav will begin with a vocal performance by Pandit Venkatesh Kumar, followed by Sangeet Manapman, a famous musical drama featuring Rahul Deshpande and Priyanka Barve.

The second day will start with the vocal performance by Rekha Bhardwaj followed by a joint performance by flutist Ronu Mujumdar and Rahul Deshpande.
The third day starts with a performance by Kirana Gharana vocalist Anand Bhate. The day ends with a fusion session by renowned instrumentalist Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhat and the famous rock band 'Indian Ocean'.


The utsav is not only for entertaining you but also offers a free day-long workshop named as Vasantotsav Vimarsh which will be held at Raja Ravi Varma art gallery, Ghole Road, on January 19. Here in this workshop, Vocalist Vijay Koparkar will guide musicians and students on riyaz methods and raga elaboration.

Every Year three artists under the categories of senior guru, music researcher, and talented young musician will be honored. This year's Vasantrao Deshpande Smruti Sanman will be given to Sulabha Thakar for her contribution in the field of musicology and to renowned organ player, Rajiv Paranjape, for his creative contribution in the field of music. The award comprises a memento and Rs 51,000.

The Vasantrao Deshpande Udayonmukh Kalakar will be given to Shripad Limbekar. This award comprises Rs 25,000 and a trophy.
